Hi guys,I just bought a 88 73A gsxr400 for $500nzd.
It is in good tidy condition for the age of the bike,
It had been sitting in a garage for just over a year, as the guy had been in a accident,
it started but i cant get it to rev over 8 - 9K
I took the carbs off and took the bowls off and tops replaced all the o-rings,cleaned the jets etc etc,put back together(It runs good down low but still the same prob.

The guy I bought it off said he took it to a motorbike shop 1 and a half years ago and they had replaced the jet needles with gsxr 600 ones as the old ones were worn and they couldnt find any stock replacements
I noticed the E clip is at the very top notch of the needle and the jet sizes are 97.5 mains and 32.5 pilots, does that sound right?
Thanks

The GK76A should have the clips in the middle from factory if i remember correctly, it might be worth moving them down. Someone more experienced with the 73a might be able to help.

Hey,
32.5 is standard size for pilots, mains are about right(standard) if my memory is anything to go by!. Needle clip should be on position 3 (from the top) as a start point, try this and go from there.Make sure the carbs are balanced properly and you have no air leaks anywhere(inlet rubbers etc,,,). I have a little experience with the 73 but not as much as Chris (variable valves) and he would be the man to interigate! Hope this helps....

Thanks guys,i dropped the E clip and now it seems to rev out properly,(I dont know why they had the clip at the top off the needle)
I will balance the carbs today and get a voltage reg as it's reading 18.4v at the battery
