Right, I bought a 3TJ track bike for robbing parts last year after crashing my hybrid so did not hpi it at the time. Turns out it's a Cat C.

Now the way things have transpired, I was thinking about using the road stuff I took off my original 3TJ to build an unfaired scootabout, as my other bike is a FZR1000 EXUP, which is a bit much for nipping out to the shops.

Anyway, with the bike being a Cat C, I don;t want to go off and build it, only to find I've got to jump through hoops to get it back on the road. My recollection of other convesations on this is that bikes do not need a VIC check and so all I would need is a MOT. Having said that, I would be insuring this bike and the insurers don't pay out properly for Cat C bikes if they are claimed upon in future. Plus there are a few minor dints in the frame, which are not really a problem but not exactly asthetic.

I've not got a V5 on the track bike either, so would need to apply for one and I think that this costs about £30.

So my thinking is that it would be better to go the whole hog and buy an undamaged frame with active V5 (and some MOT would be nice) as this would probably be about £50 and would be a better product at the end.

Any thoughts? (and anyone local to Manchester with a good frame?)

If you'd bought the bike and were just doing a few bits to ride I'd say stick with it but as your going to be building it up anyway I'd look for a different frame.

Didn't Kala have something she got from Hipringle ???

LOL, the bike's built, so it's quite a bit of work really to do a frame change for the sake of it. But it's built as a trackbike, so needs work to go on the road and a frame change isn't that bad as a winter project.

If I crash my hybrid again badly enough to knacker the frame then I'll use the frame for that but hopefully not as it hurts too much.

Has anyone done a 3TJ as a naked bike?

Yes there's a few been done, usually in the US.
Try to use high clip-ons rather than bars .... or fit up some early R6 forks, they're longer than the 3TJ's soyou could mount the clip-ons an inch above the yokes. You'll need longer cables but I guess Venhill can make some or maybe another Yam has them.

Cheers. I phoned the DVLA and they said it does not need a VIC, so just get the V5C, MOT it and good to go.
