fzr 400 3tj clutch problem . .
Hi,
Having problems with my fzr 400 3tj race bike. Well getting it off the line anyway.
Under normal conditions, ie : pulling away normal speed evrything is fine.
But when it comes to getting away quicker,
ie : race start, more revs. I cant feed the clutch it, it grabs then jumps forward and stalls.
Have checked clutch/friction plates and all seem fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Cheeeers

Are you getting sufficient oil circulation?

Hi Steve, It sounds like your 3tj has the sp (close ratio gearbox). Which from my experience are a pain in the butt to get off the line smoothly. Because the first gear is so tall the clutch looses all its feel. The standard gearbox is fine. No problem for race starts.
I have fitted the first gear from a standard gearbox into an sp box. This enables me to get a good start. I just have to rev the crap out of it before I change into second. As there is a big gap between them. I gear the sprockets so that I dont have to use first gear other than for the start.
I may have a better alternative but I have never got to test it. There is another Yamaha model that has
same size clutch which has a larger inner diameter on one fibre plate. Then inside that it has a spring type washer. This could help get more feel with the clutch.
The clutch plate and washer should be cheap and are a Yamaha part.
If you are interested , I can give you the part numbers.
Good Luck. Pete
