GK76 Engine overhaul-What do you recommend?
As my break down continues I'm at the point where I can drop the engine very easily. My bike has an unknown mileage as the clocks had been switched out at some point. What would you guys recommend be done or checked out? When purchased the bike would turn over but not fire (probably due to the clogged carbs)

Hey the build is looking real good.
If you are going the whole 9 yards then get the spanners out but as it stands i'd lift the cam cover and do the clearences then remove the right case and give the clutch a shake down. If both of these measure up good/bad it should give a clear picture of the rest of the motor.
Al the best with the build- keep the pictures coming and post the good .bad and ugly.

I'm a two stroke guy so I always think it is time to replace a piston. Do they have a long life span on the GSXR?

LOL- use to be one myself and still got a powervalve motor that im SLOWLY building into a gsxr4 slabby frame.
Them 2 strokes only get ther oil from whats floating around in the fuel, the old gixer has oil in the bottom and an oil ring on the piston so last longer if looked after. If you want to check the condition of the rings then comp test it- much cheaper than 4 pistons+ 4 rings sets.

Cool, well I have a manual on the way so I'll take your advice and check the clearances and the clutch and go from there. Mine has quite a bit of carbon build up at the exhaust port, any harm in taking a wire brush to that?

I went ahead and took both case covers off today. I'd like to confirm I should have oil in both sides. I wasn't sure if I should have oil in the left side cover. Have pity on me, I'm a two stroke guy and am not used to all this oil all over the place.

Yes, you would expect to see oil on both sides. The LH or n/s case is the clutch side and it's a wet clutch of course.

Although in the states it would be classed as N/S maybe?

yup. In the uk n/s is left side. But the clutch is on the right side! The timing side is on the left! Lol
