GK76A No spark

Hi guys,
Hoping you can help as I'm about out of ideas. I bought a 92 SPII non-runner thinking that wouldn't be too hard to fix (should have checked the forums first, I know). The previous owner managed to cook 2 batteries and burn a hole through the PCB of the CDI before working out the rec/reg was shot. He replaced this with a CDI off a 400 Bandit that had the same connector but I know the same connector is no guarantee that it is compatible.

The starter motor spins, fuel goes to the cylinders, the lights come on but I get no spark. I have checked the coils and the pickup and they all seem fine so I'm back to the CDI. Problem is, as you all know, getting a CDI for an SP model is nigh on impossible even suzuki UK who want £600 for a replacement said it probably wouldn't be the same.

So the engine in the SP models and the standard ones are essentially the same the main difference comes with the carbs and the gearbox. The carbs are where my interest is because they have a throttle position sensor that other models do not have. Is it possible to bypass or just ignore this and fit a CDI intended for a regular GK73 or GK76.

Please any help would be great as its really starting to get me down seeing the bike with no panels on and the wiring loom un-wrapped and strewn across the bike.

My SP CDI has two plugs where non SP seems to have the one. I think you would need to run a standard loom and then use the non SP CDI.

At the moment I'm back to 33mm Mikuni carbs (std GK76a) bored out for the TPS. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get round to setting it up. They don't have the extra hoses to pressurise the airbox though.

I would have said it would run with the B4 cdi as i had my VVC running on a gsxrsp 12 pin cdi (cams stayed at hi).
I had a mare with reg/rec's blowing until i fitted a 08 cbr6 one but the SP cdi wont run now (may have blown it).
One point maybe that if the VVC cdi is pre 92 and your SP is 93 on it may not fire due to the pick up trigger.

I looked up the paperwork I got with the bike and the CDI is from a 91 VT model according to the receipt and the part number is 32900-33d00 and the other code on it is bb7242. Any one any ideas if this should work with the bike which was first registered 92 according to the DVLA.

The part no. is deffo a VVC cdi and it should'nt work but may work. If you want to test the cdi you can post it to me and i will try it on my VVC. Like i said i ran the VVC on a SP cdi but only for a few seconds and now its a no go.

i would certainly say the timing rotor is different for a start. I may have a sp cdi left but i can't be sure. I know i did have 3 at one point. If i have 2 left i could sell one but i'd have to look at the weekend
