I've not seen a previous topic on this though it might be buried.

What's the procedure for removing the carbs from a 76? I presume that you somehow pull the carbs out sideways, because.. I can't for the life of me see how the airbox would come out without removing the engine, but I've seen it stated here somewhere that it is actually possible.

Is there a post/page/document that has this in easy to understand steps? I'm in no hurry at the moment, I just think the thing is a bit rich and the 'mechanic' that last dealt with the carbs seems to have f'ed up enough other stuff that I'm going to have to look one day soon-ish.

At this stage probably just for a quick remove, open up and look/photo, close and put back together so I know I can at least repeat that without breaks'ing the bike.

Symptoms like:
Rolling along the road at a constant, low power (4k-6k rpm) seems to induce a sort of hunting/pulsing feel.
Bogging down when pulling away, so again < 6k rpm
Riding a Triumph 675 for the first few minutes from cold, sometimes, resulting in "Odeur de unleaded"

Oh, and a sensible mechanic that fixxered up the prior job on the HT leads told me to "sort those carbs"

Remove the upper side fairing... The bellypan part can stay...

It's not that difficult.

Remove the tank
Undo the kill switch assembly - two screws. Remove the throttle twist and cable.
Pull out the metal pins down the side of the carbs (both sides)
Undo and remove the choke cable - 1 bolt on bracket of carbs
Undo the two hoses on top of the carbs - ontop of the airbox
Undo hose that runs between, up and over the carbs
Undo the jubilee style clips on engine and airbox sides
Gently rock the carbs to remove out of the rubbers
If you were sitting on the bike they slide out on the right hand side

Airbox can stay there.
