GSXR 400 GK76A STARTING PROBLEM BACKFIRING

Post by martinstephensons »

Hi all i have a 93 plate gsxr 400 that wont start

it was bought as a none runner so i have replaced the o rings, spark plugs, and it fires but will not catch

can anyone advise just where all the pipes go onto underneath the petrol tank.

there is 2 pipes which go from carb i beleivbe these go to fuel tap and is 1 smaller pipe that comes from the middle of the carbs i beleive this goes to the end of the fuel tap and then there is another pipe that is not on the petrol tap but goes to nothing is this correct??

All it will do is backfire at the moment and just want to check where all the fuel/vacuum pipes go.

cheers in anvance.

Hi Martin, the pipe sound like they are on correctly, is it popping and banging from the exhaust as you crank it?

If so it would be worth checking that the coils are connected correctly, it may not be firing in the right order.

Could be that someone has been playing with it before you, I will nip out and check what colours go where in a mo and post it up for you.

si

Now looked and the coils are marked + and - on both coils the orange wire goes to the +

On the coil for clinders 1 and 4 the negative is white

On the coil for cylinders 2 and 3 the negative is black with a yellow tracer

Hope you get it running!

i checked all the coil leads and they were as should be.

i have now managed to get it started but only by bumping it off fired up straight away..

but still wont start by cranking it..

any more ideas would be greatful...

stripes has told me he would take a look at the carbs and set things up in that department.
so when my little boy gets out of hospital i will send them to him to have a look.
