ok so last night it rained...and like many times before my bike was outside....no big deal ill wash it in the morning etc...

so i go to the bike because i want to go for a ride to the shops....put my key in and theres nothing....no lights....no anything.

take the seat off and the battery appears to be in a pool of water....and yes it is water not acid....i charge the battery up as its totally flat....put it in the bike and as soon as its connected the dash lights come on ?????? the ignition was OFF though...i turned it to ON and pressed the starter and i get a buzzing sound from near the battery!!!

i figure it might sort itself if i left her to dry out....it didnt...ive had the side fairings off and ive sprayed all the connectors i can see with wd-40 same for the ignition as well....all my fuses are fine....

what on earth could it be? could it be a wire is earthing somewhere??? my battery is fine and ive never had problems with my reg/rec or battery...i dont see why or how its making a connection before the ignition is ON....

the buzzing is more than likely the starter relay(solenoid)......its strange that the ignition lights came on even with the ignition lights off unless the switch was bridged with so much water maybe.....ive had my bike left out in torrential rain and nothing like this has ever happened but if i was you let it dry out and maybe dry the starter relay up and see if it makes any difference.

buzzing sound was def your starter solenoid, i would also say let it dry out and try again but also check if any ignition wires have crossed onto a permenant live, hence the lights with no keys, hth

turned out that water had got into the ignition and drained through to the bottom / bottom of it got wet and it caused the contacts to bridge meaning the dash lights stayed on for more than 24 hours draining the battery....the pool of liquid was water not acid....and the relay was buzzing because the battery didnt have enough charge to turn her over....

all fixed now though :D not leaving her in the rain again!
