Rear caliper replacement, upgrade?

Hi guys,
i'm in the unfortunate position of needing to replace both rear caliper pistons on my caliper. This got me thinking as to whether there were any calipers off more modern bikes that would fit? this is more of a cost cutting option than an upgrade but it seemed to me there were lots of quite new rear calipers going for around the £20 mark so seemed a good idea to swap the whole thing over if there was another part that would fit.
It seems by just eyeballing some photos that the mounting holes seem in similar positions on most rear calipers so i was wondering if there was anything elso to look out for.
Any info you guys have on what does fit or even what doesn't fit would be really handy
cheers
rich

Howdo,

this has been looked into and the only caliper I have seen stuck on instead of the normal brick was a Suzuki MX caliper - think it was one of our danish buddies on here...but I cannot recall his name!

the disc needed trimming to fit as well and so for us normal people...we get to keep the oe one.

This is how it's done...Suzuki RM85 -07 FRONT caliper, with quite a few modifications to both caliper and bracket.

thanks for the info guys. all looked a bit too involved for me! i found a chap who machines brake caliper pistons on ebay (he advertises for some old kawasaki and yamaha ones but will do any). I've sent him an old rear caliper piston so he now has the sizes to make them up. they cost me £8 each so really was a cost effective way of rebuilding the rear caliper (and avoiding honda's £18 per piston). All looks shiny and works beautifully now. May be worth doing if your pistons looked as ropy as mine did!
if you want contact details for him give me a shout and i'll pass them on. He really was a very pleasant chap to deal with.
