CBR 400 misfiring? What is it?

I recenly bought a CBR400RR NC23.
When i bought it, it all ran fine. No problem. Batteries drain a bit fast because of the immobiliser, but not really a problem as long as it's run once a week.
Anyway, it was left sitting on my drive for a couple of months while i waited for my test to come and go - being run every couple of weeks or so to keep the carbs cleaned out (or so i thought). After passing my test, i decided to take it out for a spin.
Everything ran fine for a bit, and it's still running flawlessly, except that it keeps missfiring. It seems that when i pull in the clutch at speed a little pop comes out the back. I was told by a friend that the carbs need balancing, but not sure.
Is this what's wrong with it? Out of sync carbs? Or is it something else?
And in terms of cost, how much is it to get them balanced? Or can i do it at home?
Thanks for any advice :)
