urgent help reqiured if anyone has some clues. I recently got a 1998 cbr400 nc23 triarm and have had so much trouble with it. It has a intermittent starting fault,,i have replace all the starter relays and now the regulator rectifier but this morning it would not fire. Smells like it is getting fuel and starting to flood but have just flattened the battery trying it,,, not sure on the spark now because of this so of to buy a new charger. It ran like a dream last night and had no problems but this morning it just wouldnt think about firing. Any suggestions would be good many thanks

Is the kill switch off? Almost always an obvoius thing....

Cant see all the plugs failing overnight.... all coil connections ok? has it been out in the rain at all? All connections free of water/corrosion etc?

it was running fine yesterday,,,,just fitted new throttle cables and showed no sign of breaking down,,,the kill swith is of i did check that lol. Wasnt in the rain either all covered up for the night just very strange,,,if i disconnect the kill switch will it stop anything else working that way i can eliminate the switch

i have since gone through the loom and checked all the connections,,,ripped out a old alarm that i didnt know was there and corrected some dodgey wiring,,,but have to pop pout and let the battery charge,,,fingers crossed but in case any pointers whilst it is in a million bits to check

Theres no sidestand switch retrofitted to it, no?

Plenty of fuel in the tank? Wouldnt hurt to try reserve anyway?

Plugs tight? (Had a misfire prob the other day on my rebuilt 400/4, after a lot of headscratching and trying this and that I decided to check the tappets for tight valves as it kept stalling whilst pulling away? Went to undo the end plug - and was halfway out anyway... )

no its has fuel,,,,and i did try reserve,,,nothing on the side stand either so thats all good....the plugs were tight as i undid them to check for sparks on them

ok so i have her firing now just been on a 20 mile ride seems fine at low revs but around 10-11000 it seems to hesitate almost choke itself,,,i cleaned all the wiring up and regained the spark but am wonderin gif i have a intermittent fault with something

these are very prone to trouble, if the battery is slightly knackered, try another batt if poss..ted

i know this is a old post but might help someone like me on a update,,same problem on the rare occasion wouldnt start. stripped her down no feed to the coils,,, rewired the pick ups at engine level worked a treat. 2 days later epic fail would not spark,,small tap to crank case a boom she lives,,,tried and tested 3 times so need to replace the pick ups,,,So if you have fuel and no spark just a little tap on the casing might do the job
