FZR400 Pilot screw

Hi guys,
Set the valves on my '89 FZR400 due to poor cold starting and they weren't too bad, most needed increasing by .005, some not at all. The bike was then even fussier starting but ran fine when going so I popped the carbs.
On checking the pilot screws, the screws were uncovered. The carbs were set at 2½, 3, 1½ and 1½ turns out respectively. I know the setting is supposed to be 3½ turns out and the factory individually adjusts the bike before sealing the carbs but I believe they don't adjust them as far as mine have been. The bike came with a straight through stubby can fitted and the EXUP was wired open. I have a baffled can and the EXUP is fine now.
I was wondering what other people had found their pilot screws adjusted to?
