engines

been looking at some nc30 engines and noticed they are all black but mine is grey any reason for this. were they made in different colours for different years?

NC30 engines are close to a Graphite Grey, NC35 engines were un-painted. Throw up a photo of your motor and I'll tell you what it is.

mine is deff unpainted i will throw up a pic if i can figure it out do you know how the engine numbers differ maybe i can check that :peace:

couldnt figure out the pic but found my engine number and compared it to my haynes manual and indeed it is a nc35 engine from 96 or above in a 92 nc30 are there any pros or cons to this whats the difference? :sshh:

No huge differences that you're likely to notice. Theoretically a fresher engine (but I assume mileage is unknown) which is a plus. But the major plus (or minus depending on your riding style) is that you've most likely got the short ratio NC35 gearbox in there too. If you can do approx. 100 kmh + (60 mph) in first then it's an NC30 gearbox. If notably less then you've probably got an NC35 gearbox (or some crazy sprockets!). I'd really like an NC35 gearbox in my NC30, but don't have the time to swap. Race starts are a prick with NC30 'boxes :down: Sounds like you've got a good deal to me 8-) How about your carbs?

not sure about the carbs as i could only peek thru the fairing at the engine number, im going to be taking the tank off to check my electrics i seem to be losing a cylinder in heavy rain may be my ht lead cracked or something, but i will check the carb number an get back pretty sure its a 35 gear box will try your theory on the way home from work today, cheers for your input it has been very helpful :plus:

Check that the spark plug water drain hole isn't blocked, fair chance this is causing the problem if it only happens in the wet.

will do mate, as far as the gearbox it is indeed a rvf gearbox could only get to about 45 at about 14000 rpm
