gk73a clutch bit

Post by sully »

hey all just signed up to your great site and im stright in askin for help!
the bike is a 1988 gk73a with 51k on the clock. the problem im having is with the clutch adjustment. when i got the bike goin i found the clutch was knackered, so replaced it with ebc stuff, and then also changed the cable (fresh silkolene super 4T oil aswell) but every time i set up the clutch in the garage, after a wee run out would be completely gone again. ive got it down to the bit that the clutch cable hooks into at the rod bit (good descpriotion that). the rod itself seems ok. where the cable goes it, it keeps pulling out again. ive clamped it different ways with no luck. i dont really want to put a spot of mig on it!
is there a repair kit or are these parts still avilable? evilbay has given no luck, or would a part from another model be made to fit? dont mind havin to hit stuff with a hammer to get it to work!
thanks for any help

ok, i had similar experience with my 76. Not sure if it's the same on the 73, but on the outside of the sproket/clutch push rod cover, there is a rubber cover about the size of a 10p piece. Prise this off with a screwdriver and behind it is a small nut which can work loose. Simply tighten this untill there is ample pressure on the cable, slacken both cable adjusters right off and do it right up if you like. A dab of threadlock won't go amis! As i say, not sure if it's the same on the 73, but definetely worth a try. If it is the problem, I don't know anyone that completely rebuilt the clutch assy before discovering this

no i had found the adjuster screw there, but someone had been there before me and sripped the threads! so replaced it with a bolt to do the same thing. the problem i think is the other side of this casing, where the cable clips into, it keeps pulling through. im wondering if a 76 part might fit onto the 73 casing?
