Hello everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows where i can get some exhaust studs from and what type on metal they should be. Ive been told to get bright zinc plated thread and chop down to the correct length and then get bright zinc plated nuts apparently the plating stops its corroding in the engine or something like that,

So its either Bright Zinc plated thread and nuts or stainless but ive been told stainless is a no no...

Please help me with your advice or personal experiences ive had 2 snap in the engine and it was a job to get the out with out drilling and dont want that to happen again,
Regards, Peter

Whats wrong with using oe exhausts studs? Put a little copper slip on them and away you go.
How often will you be changing the headers in all reality?

Hi Peter, David Silver spares have these in stock, very cheap I think, I bought two a while ago. Now if your pushed for time or dont want OE just buy some studding out of B&Q or other hardware store I think its M6 in size but check, cut the studding to length and dress the edges, now find a couple of nuts and thread one halfway, this replicates the smooth centre of the original and gives you an idea of how much your going to screw in the head, add your copper slip and they should screw in by hand upto the nut. I done this on my Chinese 125 and it was better than the original studding.

The trouble with stud iron (I know it's steel) is that it is quite low tensile strength. I'd ALWAYS use a high tensile bolt cut down if you cant get pukka studs. Definitely use copper grease though.

Hi, I've used stainless for years, just get some long bolts and chop the heads off at the correct length. And use copper grease as well.
Cheers
