Tyres

After what seems like ages, I think my GK76a is ready to go back on the road after nearly 4 years in storage. The last thing to do is put on some fresh tyres and then away it goes.

Does anyone know the tyre sizes and more importantly the speed rating as the bike is currently being stored elsewhere which makes it difficult to pop and check. From memory I think they are 120/60 R17 & 160/60 R17 but want to be certain before splashing out on a pair of tyres.

Does anyone have any recommendations on decent tyres? I was thinking of Pirelli Diablos or Dunlop Roadsmarts.

Tires with 2.00, 2.25 & 2.50 nominal section widths are rated for 75 mph.

120 60 17 and 160 60 17 is correct

Tyre choice is huge, so pick a pattern :whistle:

Thanks Matt, I thought that I had remembered the sizes correctly. I should also get away with H rated as well.

go for a set of bridgestone 090's not bad for wear. I managed over 3000 miles on a set compared to 800 miles on alpha10's and the 090's are a great performer from cold. H rated as matt says you won't find a better tire in my opinion for the 76a

Can't say i've tried the 090, but I have the BT092's on my GK76a and my ER6f. I think they work better on my ER6f, but they offer exceptional wet grip, so they're worth a look. The 092 is supposed to be the one to have though.

How do you find the Super Corsa's? I had them on my R1 for a while, absolutely loved them when scrubbed in and hot, had stupid amounts of grip... but I was doing a lot of motorway miles and after not very long had the nasty squared off centre patch BOOOOO!!!! Then I found I was wearing through them too quick cause I was booting it everywhere to try and round them off again, followed by long motorway miles.... and so the cycle continued!!! I was getting less than 3k for a rear and about twice that for a front.

I was thinking of putting them on my 76a if it ever comes back out of track guise, but didn't want to do such an expensive experiment if the same thing happened. I wouldn't have thought it would cause of the lack of power compared to a litre bike.

bridgestone 090's for fast road use. 092's for commuting. Designed for the 250/400 market and H rated. Can't say a bad word about them

090's are very good and being H rated are a little lighter than the Z's.

I always stick with 090's. They offer plenty of grip on the road whatever the weather
