I changed the chain recently ... when I say "I" I mean I took it to a garage. The front sproket was apparently to narrow (8mm) for the nut to torque up so they fitted a 9mm rather than a 1mm washer behind the nut.

All works ok but I've gain a transmission whine ... anybody else had this ????

sounds a bit 'odd' to me, never heard of a sprocket being too narrow to torque a nut to

could that washer be rubbing on the crankcases?

That is not right...

the part of sprocket that mounts on the splines is the same size to fit the shaft - the rest of it, the 428/520/525 part of it should be independant of the spline fitment..

get the right sprocket.....

I've got the sproket from B+C but the garage said it doesn't allow the nut to torque ... just trying not to get my hands dirty

Is this your Bim?? Just sounds totally wrong.. a 9mm washer is really a spacer by an other name! It seems too large a discrepancy for it to be bodged on like that

They have probably fitted the front sprocket the wrong way around, as there was a piece machined out of the 520 front sprocket that i fitted to my 3TJ but i can't remember which way it is supposed to face.
I can check when i get back to the workshop tomorrow.

This is on the 3TJ.
Riding it tonight though I can still hear the whine ... it seems speed related not revs which is right for the chain.

I went to the Bimota meet and found that in order to put a new sprocket nut on, not only do I need to drop the engine on the top mounts but the original Suzuki nut needs to machined to fit. The Bim must use a larger rear than the GSX-R 1100W so the sprocket is spaced from the engine and that amount was taken out of the nut.

Last night I took some pics of the 4JH engine in the back of the garage (actually it's near the back and to the left) anyway it looks like the sprocket has some play and the nut tightens up to a shoulder on the output shaft. I wonder if they though the nut had to tighten to the sprocket ???



Oh well I guess I'll have to get down and dirty with it. I've got some jobs to do on the bike anyway.
