i have never done anything like this so i followed the guide on this forum on how to do it and here r my results
on all 8 inlet valves i could fit a 0.10mm feeler gauge but not a 0.15 mm,
on all 8 exhaust valves i could fit a 0.20mm but not a 0.25mm feeler gauge

do you guys think the results are ok? any work needing doing ?
also what seals do i need to change before putting it back together?
at the moment im doing an oil and coolent change so the engine wont be needed for some time

Ideally you would want a bit better accuracy than you have got there.

most feeler gauge sets I have don't have the specific ones but you can make them using a combination of 2 gauges.



I fear that yours are too tight - the lower ranges are 0.12 and 0.21 for IN and EX...

So, your middle range is 0.15 and 0.24...

If you are happy with it then your choice, but as this is a relatively major operation it pays to get it right first time.

Have you swapped any shims? Do you not know the exact clearances for each valve and the size of the shim installed?

Almost sounds like you have done half a job....as in measured it, saw it was close and then said, OK, done!

Well I only just got the bike about 2 weeks ago. I haven't changed any shims or measured them but I can measure them if u like.
My gauges has the following 0.05,0.10,0.15,0.20,0.30 ect ect
On my inlet I couldn't fit the 0.15 and ex I couldn't fit the 0.20+0.05
do u recon I need smaller shims?

I would get some feeler gauges that allow you to get as close to the tolerances required as possible.

Halfords do a set for about £3 and you can make 90% of the required numbers by using 2 or 3 gauges.

If you are going to do this right, you will end up with a sheet of paper (or something in excel..) that shows you the clearance and the installed shim for each valve.

From that you want to swap the shims around to try and get as many as close to the middle range as possible (I aim for .16 inlet and .25 exhaust as I like to have it slightly slacker rather than slightly tighter.

most people find they need maybe 3 or 4 shims after checking it all.
