Rear wheel stuck

Post by Chaosfruitbat »

Afternoon all,

Trying to remove the rear wheel on my NC30 and it wont budge! Removed the nut and spacer, then sprayed with penetrating oil, and nothing. Then spent an hour trying to heat it up, whilst hitting the other side of the wheel with a hammer and a lump of wood (to protect the rim). Nothing.

Finally layed the bike on its side and sprayed loads more penetrating oil into it, then reapplied enough heat to the side of the wheel to warm the swingarm as well. Still nothing.

Before I resort to removing the whole hub assembly from the other side of the swingarm, anybody got a pointer or two?

Ta

Smack it harder...

and when you have got it off...use some copaslip next time ;)

I recall one of the guys rode the bike with the nut off to get it to loosen up...mental but it worked.

Some wood, some hammers and get smacking it

I'm just starting to pull bits off this bike, only to find that the previous owner was fred flintstone. No grease on anything, rounded mismatched nuts everywhere, etc. I guess thats the price you pay for a cheap 'project' ;)

I'll try hitting it harder methinks.
