My thermostat was leaking so i bought replacement seals for it. I gave it a really good clean and tried to put it back together but the bolts are not holding on to the bottom of the thermostat housing. Anyone else have this problem? Can i get away using longer bolts and a nut?

Thanks.

BTW, before it all goes back on the bike, how can it test the themostat to check that it works properly?

Dunno 'bout the bolts but to test a thermostat put it in a saucepan of water and put it on the hob and observe. Even new ones have been known to fail.

The bolts go through the bottom and thread into the top of of the housing

But if your threads are buggered, then nuts would do the job.
