Hello chaps,

I know that you don't want more than about 40mm of play in the drive chain, but I'm wondering what to do with the swingarm?

I just checked it and there's acceptable slack in the chain, but as the swingarm is very close to the chain, I'm wondering if you guys tend to keep it fairly tight to stop the chain from slapping the swingarm?

What is the problem? Is it too close on top or on the bottom?

Best to have the chain adjusted properly. You should have the same amount of chain slack top and bottom, if it's different you'll need to move the chain on the sprocket 1 tooth at a time until the slack is even.

There's a plastic protector on top of the swingarm to stop any damage to the swingarm/chain, no need to worry about the bottom if the chain is adjusted properly.

Exactly! I was a little nonplussed because the Haynes manual shows a guy wanging the chain about 50mm upwards, yet on my viffer the distance to the plastic bit is only about 30mm away. I guess the pic is of a RVF and I don't need to worry.

That sounds about right if that's 30mm of upward movement.

I think the chain on my vfr's rests on the plastic when sitting there. On the move is a different story!
