Hi there guys as you can see im wanting to upgrade the front end suspension and brakes i have got a set of bent VFR 400 NC30 forks for cheap just need to get some stanchions and sorted but also looking to put NC30 calipers on too....Just wondering if the NC29 discs are the same size as the NC30's also will i have to change the steering head bearing aswell?

As for the brakes im wondering would it be worth while considering 6pot brembos w/bracket?......or would that be a bit much on the front?

Thanks, Peter

Am fairly sure the '30 sliders fit the '29 stanchions so you don't need anything else?

std 30 brakes are good compared to the sliding caliper shonk on the 29..6 pot bremobs would be overkill and heavy

discs are the same

yokes are 41mm so no need to change them and so head bearings are sorted.

do a search...couple of people have already done this.. 8-)

Thats good news but my R/H stanchion is pitted in seal area but if thats the case ive found 29 tubes for 100 where as the 30 tubes are 260 :( well the only ones ive found are that much :'( and i though the 6pots would be overkill haha plus easier to put nc30 calipers on plus its still an upgrade as to the 29 calipers haha.
Thanks for the reply didnt think there would be much difference between the 30 and 29 apart from the engines.
Thanks, Peter

Will NC30 calipers fit an NC23?

There are several easy bolt on conversions that will fit the nc30 forks (and your setup):

- SP1/CBR600rr gold nissins with Rick Oliver brackets
- 65mm brembos with Rick Oliver brackets

Same goes to 93-97 CBR900RR/RVF400R caliper if using the Rick Oliver bracket..

The early fireblade calipers have 27/30mm pistons, and should be used with a 14mm master. Go for later fireblade calipers they have 32/34mm and work great with a 5/8" master cylinder, you get more power/control than the older parts. 98-99 are good, later are better with teflon coated pistons. They are all cross-compatible to the forks. You can also fit Tokico calipers from eg. GSX-R 750K2, but beware as although these are high spec with 30/34 teflon coated alloy pistons, they don't get on with winter salt very well at all. With 30/34 they give a very "sharp" feel on the standard 5/8" master, but are far too soft on a 14mm. They really wanted a non-existant 15mm master, or maybe some type of radial.

Is there any straight bolt on caliper upgrade to the 29 forks? I mean without swapping the lower forks over?
