Hello all hopefully someone will shed some light on this one for me?? I have an 89 NC30 and come back to my bike after a week away so thought I'd see if she starts ready for work in the morning. Just the usual click click from the solenoid. I put it on a optimate over night and showed the battery as strong good so I thought turned the ignition thinking she would start and as before click click. Just checked the battery showing 13V swapped the solenoid with my other bike and to no advantage but put a meter on the battery still showing 13V but as soon as ignition was switched on it dropped to 11V hence just the click of the solenoid. Please help as this is my daily bike and don't want anything drastic to happen to my other one as I want to sell it soon.

had a similar problem the other day mate. jump start it from a car that will tell you if its your battery or something else. volts may be ok but the ampage may not be.

Yep tried that and no problems. Bumps and jumps fine at first blip. Just totally puzzled when the optimate says its strong battery but a drop of two volts worries me.

its your battery not enough cranking power is it new?

Yep only a couple of months!! Like I say the voltage drop is a major concern as why is it drawing loads of volts for just lighting the neutral and oil light.

check the electrolyte level and give the batery a shake then leave for an hour. try starting it then it may release the missing ampage when the bubbles are dispesed from the cell walls. good luck mate

ps what make of battery was it and did it cost around £20?

Okay still scratching my head!! Jump started the bike from my car just to see what was happening. Personally I think the reg rec as usual has fooked the battery. Put a meter between the pos and neg took it up to 5k as described in electrex guide and its putting in 20 plus volts when should be around 14.5V. Please tell me I'm right as can't be doing with this anymore. NC30 electrics can't bloody stand them!!

I think you are right...reg rec has killed the battery.

do the tests on the reg rec and see if it passes.. also on the genny in case something has melted in there!!

ballache - but if fixed all in one go it is usually solid form there on in. (touches wood)
