Chain and sprocket noise.

Hi again.

After taking my NC24 out for the first time on friday and a good day just riding round going nowhere. I killed the engine at the top of the drive and just free wheeled down and could hear noise coming from the chain/front sprocket.

With the back end of the bike off the ground today, side panel off and sprocket cover off I cant see anything out of place. I've taken the chain off and spun the sprocket by hand and no noise. Chian back on and the noise comes back.

It's a brand new chain and sprocket set. The noise is almost like the chain is running on a bolt head or something, I've had a look round but no sign of that. Also it's not a constent noise just a couple of times for every rear wheel turn.

I thought maybe the chain could be out of line and trying to ride up the front sprocket but then it cant be can it? Not with a single sided swing arm with the pivot style adjustment.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

P.s. Any body know how to get a picture on the peice where your name and info comes up? It says avatar is not activated but in the control pannel it is!

Cheers.

did you find any tight links on the chain when you took it off? is it secured by a rivet link or a spring clip?

the avatar becomes activated when you become a site supporter I think

Overtightened it ?

Bit of grit in the chain ?

Well this morning I decided to remove the front sprocket and rebuild it checking it at every step for some noise.

Spun shaft that goes in to gearbox, no noise.
Replaced sprocket loosly, no noise.
Put chain on still with sprocket loose, no noise.
Put washer on and two bolts with retaining clip, torqud them up, no noise.
Tensioned chain and torqued pinch bolts, still no noise!

So what was making the noise is a complete mystery but at least its stoped now.

Thanks to those who chipped in with sugestions.

Cheers,

Greg78.

Having the same issue with my NC30.
When I push the bike (engine off), slowly, I can hear a strange knocking noise similar to what you describe.
I can't also figure out what's going on.
