Hey all, so my collars are leaking so time to take the exhaust off, armed with my haynes manual I give it a go.

On the rear pipes, the three nuts are quite rusted! The bottom one came off fine, the middle one is awkward to get too, and the top one I haven't figured out yet.

Any tips for removing them?

I find taking the footrest hanger and rear master cylinder off gives you better access. Also lots of WD40 if they are rusted always helps
Also if you have 2 nuckles for your socket set that helps too you can bend round the top pipe. but 1 nuckle is dooable just takes a bit longer.

i use one of them knuckle joints to get in there at a angle. It can be got at with a straight bar but from what i remember you need to remove something else

Yes DM just had a quick look at mine, and i always take the seat unit off, it does make life much easier

Yeah I've got the seat unit off, and the r/hand footrest+exhaust shield lifted up so it's clear.

Didn't think of knuckle joints! I'll have a look now to see if I've got any!

as above.. seat unit off , right rearset inc mastercylinder , and i whipped the back wheel off too gives a bit more room and used a long bar on the socket and tons of wd40 left to soak in fer an hour or so, if you dont have a paddock stand you can still take the wheel off but will need to keep the rearset on , and just use the side stand and a block of 2"x2" wood under the right rearset or axle stand as a quick fix jack (just long enough to raise the wheel an inch off the ground)

Sorry this is off-topic. Can the NC24 rear exhausts be removed without taking the engine out of the bike if you take out the rear wheel as above ? I want to swap the exhaust gaskets.

never had a 24 but i dont see why not, get a abba stand, get the rear wheel off, rearset and the 30's are quite accessable, 24's cant be much different

nc24 rear exhaust can only be remove while the engine is the bike is with a hacksaw.

Phil, I've just taken my rear pipe of today, bottom cowl off, right rear set and exhaust guide cable tied up out of the way, 3/8" drive 12mm socket. Bottom one came off easy, middle one I used a knuckle at the socket end.
Regarding the top one, as its quite difficult to get a decent purchase on the nut, if you take the rear bodywork off you'll be able to crack the nut from above with a spanner then use the socket and knuckle to withdraw the nut, easy!
