A question of Forks

Maybe it's just my bad luck, but both 76's that i have have crappy forks. They've both got pitting low down and i thought it may be below the travel that the forks reach. Apparently not, though now I can change forkseals blindfolded (thanks trev and daz  ). It's got to the stage where i'm having to change seals after every other trackday, so somethings got to be done. I've had an engineering firm put the forks on a lathe to remove some of the corrosion, but this has not really worked. It also seems that recroming is stupid money (is this just me?)
I know a couple of conversions have been done by various people on here and i can see benefits and drawbacks.
But in general, is it worth doing? Any handling issues etc? Is it easy enough to do?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

hey mate
long time no see! glad the fork seal guide helped. as far as fork conversions are concerned i would go 636 if your going to swap over. advantages are braking later(single finger stoppies on demand) loads less dive. they drop straight into the std yokes and only require a couple of spacers on the spindle calipers and behind the discs. what rear shock are you running?

k5 on the rear methinks, but the grinding is done to put something better in once the front is sorted. Sounds like you've done it once or twice daz ;) what price should i look at paying for the forks + calipers? Prices seem to vary on t'interweb by quite a lot.

just a few times now mate. got lots of tricks up my sleeves still. if your looking for forks. 636 from a 2003 with the complete front brakes is what you want. try and spend as little as possible for ones that have the best tubes. the rest is simple paint finishing the tubes as you found out need more. and fork seals are an easy change now eh. gimme a shout mate we'll have to have a chat soon.
