I know theres quite a few tyre threads hiding in the forum but didnt see an answer to this.

I currently have a bt92 on the back, its currently done 5k miles, it was wearing as you would expect, the centre is now just down to the wear bars/markers

most of those miles, at least 3000 of them, had been done commuting unfortunatly

however the other week there I had a blast up to inveraray (up A82 onto A83, highly recomended btw)

its a 120 mile round trip for me, on some fantasticly open, smooth and flowing roads, so as you would, picked up the pace a bit

when i set off the sides of the tyre had about 3-4mm of tread on them, but when i got back they only have about 2ish mm now

my questions is (after long story I know) is it possible to fry a tyre?

i know the bt92 is a commuting tyre and it served me very well through the winter however on a hot day (as it was) with extended hard riding it seems to have evaporated


is there a tyre out there that without too much commuting (uni is nearly finished for the year ) will last a reasonable amount of time i.e. 2-3 k miles and not disapeer after some quick summer riding (i hope i get some quick summer riding in anyways lol)

Ive got a 090 on mine and if i get 3000mls from it i will be happy but i only use it for pleasure though so no help at all really

If your happy to get 3k out of it then at least i know its not like the time I put alpha 10s on my last cbr and could almost watch the rubber disapear each time i threw it into a corner, got on the throttle, or wheeled it out of the garden lol

As I say just need something that can take a minimal amount of commuting <200 miles certainly, but plenty of good wholesome summer abuse

After i was making bridgestone's vanish I've put some continental "contiforce" on..
fantastic tyre...good in wet, fast to warm up & nice light handling Plus good straight line.

Pound for pound a good lasting tyre !!

I think the SM boys use them too

Cheers MrTadSlow, fraid Im still on the 18" wheel at the back. If I ever get round to putting a 17" on the bike then may give them a whirl, sound like just about everything i need in a tyre
