YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
Howdo Yamaha posse...
Being the sneaky git I am I have a YZF750 trackbike.
I'm getting low oil pressure and a leak from my waterpump - so, does one drive the other?
I get the feeling my water pump is on the way out and so not delivering the oil pressure.
Is that a sound theory?
Anyone got a fiche or a service manual for one? Would be useful to know whether i have to buy a thunderace motor instead of fixing this one

couldn't tell you .... but it might be worth having a scout on the web for a manual or getting a Hanyes / Clymer one. If it's a common problem then do a google search and it should come up in a YZF forum.
Maybe you should fit the T'Ace engine just to sure
or build the two into one for the six speed box :)

Re: YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
Cheers man.. Yeah, sticking a bigger motor in it would be cool...but I have not got the strength! Got my no9 to fettle, my racebike to sort, another racebike to build and this bloody YZF causing me grief!
I've had a good goggle session on google but not common. I'll have to get in and see what's what I guess.
I assume the engine architecture is the same (or very similar) to the FZRs of the same time so will have a look at some of the resources on here.

Re: YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
Cheers man. I cannot figure out from that how the 2 pumps might be related in drive.. how are the pumps driven?
Oil pump off a chain as per most moto
water pump ??
looking at motors it is cheaper to get an 'Ace rather than a YZF so if I need a motor..I suppose I had better do a good job of it...

Re: YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
what makes you think youve got low oil pressure? have you tested the oil pressure or is the red oil light coming on?

Re: YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
I have used this moto at a few trackdays and have had red oil light on a couple times. Filled up with a bit of oil and all good.
Last TD at Oulton I had an oil light early in the day so I stuck a few hundred ml in it and carrried on. However, during session 4 the light was coming on intermittently at high revs. As I parked it up and got on the stands it was pointed to me that I was leaking coolant. This is coming from the side of the casing, where the pump is.
The leak is ever so slightly dripping when the bike runs.
I assume this is related.
Any ideas most gratefully received.

arent YZF oil lights "oil level" lights rather than "oil pressure" lights .. ?
know my R6 is .. and the senders (common part) are known to fail ..

Dunno mate.
If so, then it is getting too much of a thirst for oil!! It has had the head sorted, reground valves and reset clearances etc so that is bob on. It goes lovely...
I will read the manual I have....see what is what.

Re: YZF750 - waterpump/oil pump?
yzf 750s do this, the oil light is only an oil level indicator not a pressure one.when i had my first yzf750(i had 2) it did this to me and i had a real panic, but a good few of them do this. mine would do it on fast right handers especially (my 750/1000 too) or when picking the bike up out of a tight corner and getting hard on the gas.i met alot of yzf owners whos bike did this as well.they do burn a bit of oil though both my 750s and my 750 hybrid like to sip a bit especially when thrashed-so i wouldnt worry just keep an eye on the oil level.
