Hi guys, just gotta say that the beast that is the cbr400 nc23 FINALY and I mean FINALY lives :)

Well, after months (and i mean months) of banging my head against the wall as to why my cbr wouldn't start i got given a week off work so i decided to check everything on the bike that could stop the engine running...

First off Compression: Nout wrong there...
Checked the plugs: sooty - petrol is getting in it seems...
Checked for spark: Deffinitly there...
Removed the engine and had a good look at the timing - timing is spot on (not bad for my first engine rebuild last year)... We also removed those annoying 33bhp restrictor washers.. (NOTE: im no longer on a restricted license for those that would question me )

So the father in law and myself bolted the engine back in fitted some new exhaust gaskets whilst we were at it as well as fitted a new neutral sensor...

Next thing we done was take good look at the carbs: - Float bowls were mucky so i cleaned those. Diaphrams were pretty clean, no bent needles ect.. We put the carbs back togeather and had a bit of fun when refitting them (wouldnt go in at first), Connected the fuel line, and tightened up the rubber inlets to the engine adjusted the throttle cables ect...

We then proceded to fill the tank up with some fresh petrol, and fitted the battery which had been on charge overnight...

Turned the key.. noticed that the neutral light wasn't switching on so had to hold in the clutch lever (poss blown bulb), Pressed the ignition button and after a few moments vROOOOOOOMMMMM! engine splutters for a min or so but it LIVES much to my amasement...

I've gotta go back to the inlaws garage today to let her run for a bit then i can get on with putting the rest of her back togeather ready for her mot

So without further adue... Thanks for the help / advice guys... i know i wouldn't have got the bike running without it...

Note i just need a road legal can now... afaik the father in law says that you can no longer mot a bike without a BS number... ? not sure about this but what i do know is the current can (Art pro series 2 jobie) has had the not for road use polished out..

you dont need a bs stamp for the mot, its to their dicretion on how loud the can is

Right just an update been letting the bike run today however when i tried using the gearbox to get into first and second all i get is nothing except crunching noise... the clutch is ok so im gonna drop the engine again and look at the gearbox (i have a spare one sitting at my mothers).

have you tried putting it in gear without the engine running? It could just be that your clutch needs adjusting a bit more and you arent actually disengaging it at the moment.

Hmmn, will have a look at that tommorow morning when im back at the bike. however even with the engine not running trying to find gears is a nightmare...

pretty sure i put it togeather properly when i rebuilt the engine a while back though..

Will deffinitly have a look though as overwise it would seem i've gotta drop the engine again to check the gearbox

Before you go any further - check the gear change collar did not fall off during reassembly - a real easy thing to happen - with out it changing gear is tough.

The main gear change shaft can float in and out when the clutch cover is removed and the collar will simply fall off - landing in the sump - you would never know ...

Seen this many a time.
