Hi All

Got a funny starting problem with my NC30, bike turns over in the mornings but does not want to fire up, but I can usually get it fired up in the afternoons after some hectic turning over.

This was never a problem before, but due to a crash a while back the bike was not ridden for about 8 months, now after the long standing period its giving problems.

What would be the most likely cause of this?

Also its winter here now (I'm in South Africa), morning are coldish 5C or so...

Any help appreciated. :D

Old fuel maybe? Might have gummed up the carbs? Have you checked your plugs, what kind of condition are they in? Are you using full choke and no throttle to start?

It used to start without the need for the chocke, owever I'll try this...

On gummed up carbs, how I can clean this easily? Spray some carb cleaner over it when running? Sorry don't know much about carbs.

I'll try source some new plugs, think its about time for a service anyway.

also remove fuel from your tank, and get some fresh stuff in

all the above mate,5c is not that cold at all so i wouldnt put it down to the cold weather.....if the bike is ever going to be off the road for any length of time always worth while taking some easy precautions e.g draining carbs etc

saves the hassle!!!!!

make sure you're cranking in neutral with lights off, and as fumb said, full choke and no throttle. once you get it started up, let it get hot, and keep it hot for a good 40 mins, go for a nice run. that should burn any crap that has collected on your sparkies

Battery? If the bike has been sitting for 8 months without a battery tender, there might not be enough juice to fire it up. Measure the voltage and ifs below 12.6 the battery is pretty much dead.

Cranking in neutral battery is strong, new plugs, choke open... nothing still won't start when cold

seems like I'll need to service the carbs...

im in the same boat, starter motors turning, batter is 13v charged, yet wont fire
dont know alot about carbs, but if they are varnished whats the best way to deal with it

Having the same problem here on my NC35. Bike died on me and battery completely drained. Purchased a new battery yesterday and the bike still wont fire up. Im a complete noob when it comes to electrical problems. If the R/R is defective the bike should still be able to fire up with a new battery , right?
