hi all

just to see if anyone else has had the same problem, have been doing my brothers bike up, i hadn't really done anything on it for a few months, and started been having problems trying to start it, i thought the carbs might have some dirt so stripped and cleaned them, still not starting, pulled one of the plugs and checked for a spark, found the spark not going to the electrode but to the thread, i had changed these in about september with genuine honda plugs (still NGK plugs), i swopped the two rear plugs with the old ones and the after a little cough and splutter it ran, after 3/4 mins its running sweet, question is do i now get some more new plugs or do i put the new ones back in and see if they work ok,

the bike must have only been run for about an hour and at the price for a set am a bit cheesed that the may be knackered

any one else had problems with honda plugs

any input would be grateful

martin

It doesn't matter how old the plugs are, you can foul and destroy a new set just as easily as an old set. Been there done that...!

The plugs either work or they don't usually, keep whatever works in there.

Starting the bike for short times and not letting it heat up properly will kill them, as will poor starting technique, they're fragile little buggers at times.

the old starting tecnique, full choke, hit the button, do not touch the throttle untill running on all 4 and evenly.
once its been run and used properly then assuming the fuelings correct the problem doesnt really come back
they dont like being started, run a bit then switched off without a run
