Clutch not working, rattling sound after valve check

Checked valve clearance and since I had drained the oil I decided to check clutch plates thickness and spring length. All within limits so put it back on, put the springs back on (I never took the clutch basket off), new gasket, closed it and put the oil back in. Now I got the bike to run and I hear a rattling sound coming from I don't know where but it looks to come from the lower end of the engine or headers (meaning I think everything went fine with the valve clearances), I honestly couldn't tell. Now when I press on the clutch it has no resistance and stays at the bottom, I put it in gear and let go of the lever and the bike stays the same, as in idle. When the bike is off and I put it in gear I hear a slight zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz but it doesn't block the back wheel as it should. I have no ideia what is going on, any help would be highly appreciated as I'm starting to consider burrying my savings on a mechanic. Thanks in advance.

ball bearing in the clutch at the end of the push rod moved? it sits behind the centre 'pin' in the middle of the basket, or you've knoked something in the selector perhaps?

Check to see if you have accidently pulled the selector fork out a bit (it's the V shaped thing behind the clutch basket with a spring on it) it goes through the engine to the gear linkage on the left & just recheck the clutch plates and springs are fulled seated.

Took clutch cover off and couldn't find anything out of place (apparently). Made sure clutch plates and springs were on correctly and put everything back on. Now the bike locks the back wheel when in gear (like it should) but clutch still doesn't work (when bike is on, press the clutch, put it in gear and it stalls as if I hadn't press the clutch at all, and the lever still offers no resistance). I did notice one thing, there is a center pin in the clutch with an o-ring and it pops out when I press the clutch. Shouldn't that center pin sit still in place? If I press it with my finger and press the clutch it's obvious they're connected. Center pin is number 9 on the diagram here
Thanks

it should stay! make sure the ball bearing is in there still! there is an adjuster on the sprocket cover that pushes on the other side of this rod. it could be that it is not allowing it to return fully so keeping the clutch out?

Thanks Taggy! I'll check it under the sprocket cover and the ball bearing is still in there. Now after checking the adjuster under the sprocket cover can I hammer the pin in place? It should offer some resistance to put it back in place right? Cheers.

Alright so clutch problem solved, carbs balanced but battery is dead. Bike dies the moment jumper cables come off, is it normal with a dead battery? Even if I rev it higher and remove the cables afterwords? I'll charge it tonight and check again tomorrow.

what was it with the clutch then?
dead battery sounds right, won't do much, try checking you're getting something over13v across it when running
