FZR Genesis Exup restricted to 80 Kph

Hey Guys n Gals, I have a 400 Genesis Exup. I ve owned it for about 3 months, when i got it, the guy said it hadn t been on the road for a few months, so my mate Grub ( custom bike builder down kent way, Blackmarket Customs-see back street heroes dec and march editions) an I set about it. all the usual, plugs, leads, cleaned the carbs on a few occassions, checked floats and needles, the fuel is all flowing as it should, the exup valve was broken so fixed that. but it has this green light on the dash that comes on at 80 kph and totally fucks with the running of the babybeast.... I was told, that in japan, their speedlimit is 80kph,and all their motors are restricted to this, and that the restricter is in the back of the speedo, but if i change the speedo I will bugga the CDI unit....Some one else told me to disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the speedo and take it for a spin, see if it goes over 80kph without any probs, then I know. so I m gonna try this at the weekend and take it from there.
from what i can work out from this site, the next thing to do is join the orange and brown wires in the back of the speedo, and then get one of these gold mechanical de restricters to put at the other end of the speedo cable....or am i going for overkill here?! Look forward to hearing suggestions on what the problem may be and what I can do about it.
