ok on the way home the other day the nc cuts out, turns out the battery was frying so i thought the reg rec was over charging the battery. the next day with a new reg/rec and battery i thought job done.
first attempt it burnt out the 10 amp ignition fuse, fuse replaced second attempt it burnt out the cdi then the fuse.
so now ive got a cdi on it way and ive just checked the loom for continuity all ok.

so with a new reg/rec, battery, cdi i don't want to replace and more parts for another while and want to get a second opinion.

i think the reg/rec failed over charged the battery which damaged the cdi which was burning the ignition fuse.

am i correct or could there be more to this eg the coils, pulse generator or any thing else

Hi was the new reg/rec brand new or second hand? maybe it was another bad one??

nope brand new still in the box from honda dealer in slough

Did you check the wiring?

The old reg/rec may have burnt some of the wires and caused a shirt. Check the plug and the generator end of the yellow wires.

thanks ive had the loom out and checked it for continuity all is ok haven't run the meter through the gene but the connector blocks are fine.
would the starter relay be the problem how would you test that?

Not likely to be the starter relay... if it gets shorted it just sticks on and turns the starter motor endlessly. Don't just rule it out though.

I'd start by meausreing the continuity of the 3 yellow wires with a multimeter (should be les than 1 ohm) and check theres no continuity between phases (yellow wires) and earth.. if your genny passes this, then it should be ok to start the bike and test the voltage output of the genny :-) (50v @ 5000rpm)

i'd definetely check all related wiring for continuity between seperate wires and down to earth these looms get hot and the insulation deteriorates over time i have had loads of seperate issues with the loom on my girls bike sine her reg rec melted everything.
havent got a manual in front of me but just follow the wire from the dead side of the ignition fuse and i think you may find the culprit wire etc hope this helps
