take the big nut off and tighten the bit underneath! c spanner is useful or a hammer and big flat thing that fits the grooves if you dont have one just be gentle!!

Taggy you neanderthal
Use a C-Spanner / Hook Wrench don't tap it round with anything because you'll damage the nut.
They don't need to be done up very tight so if you MOT Station told you to do it your only looking to take up the slack plus a little. If you can raise the front wheel off the ground (safely) then hold the fork bottoms and try to move them forward and back - any movement and you can tighten them up. If you get to the nut being tight and there's still slack then you'll need new bearings

Re: head bearings adjustments on 3tj
The headstock bearings tightening torque is specified as 6NM.
I normally tighten them up until i feel a bit resistance , back the nut off then re-tighten the nut up about 1/4 of a turn.
You can get an adjustable c-spanner for less than a tenner, which is cheaper than having to replace a butchered nut if you go at it with a punch and hammer.
If the steering feels notchy after you tighten up the nut, then the bearings will need to be replaced.

I only please one person per day.
