can anyone reccomend a place to get shims , (nc30) pref mail order as there is no where around here that i can get them from , im in the middle of doin mine , iv done cyclinders 1and 3 and 2 shims are out of tolerance so far , ive managed to juggle them around so only needing 2 on these cylinders so far, ill be doin the front cylinders on friday as i finish work early but want to replace them asap

Get in touch with a forum member called rick oliver. He'll do an exchange of yours for his plus £1 per shim i think and if he can't he'll get you new ones.

You can buy them mail order from david silver etc but they're not cheap, ~3quid each last time ISTR.
£1 a shim is a decent deal, after all unless you have lots of bikes or are very lucky what are you going to do with the old ones?

well if mr oliver does swapsys then id like to replace all of them and get them all bang on the middle of the tolerences as some are just out and some are just in range , where i would of just replaced the ones that are out it seems more viable to do the whole shabang instead at £1 for each one exchanged , my spare ones i was gunna use as fillings for my teeth

not funny as i nearly did throw one down there , using a blob of grease on the end of a driver is the crappest idea in the whole history of crap ideas, went an got me one of those magnet thingy ma bobs on a telescopic rod so should be just the job,

You might not need to replace all 16 as ones in other parts of the motor will go somewhere else. That's how I've always done mine. 1 bike I did had 14 shims needing replaced but I only needed to order 8 in total after swapping some around.

yeah thats my plan of attack , juggle them about a bit see whats required doubt ill need to replace all of um

just to check ...its the measured gap minus the midway point of tolerance then add the exsisting shim size = the required shim size
so it would be summit like this (exhaust valve)
measured gap= 0.20
mid point between 0.21-0.27 = say 0.24
current shim 2.35
so 0.20 - 0.24 + 2.35 = required shim 2.31
does this sound like the right formula ???
