tuned exhaust system

Post by buzzawak »

My exhaust can is battered and brushed so I have been thinking about a replacement.
I have done a bit of reading about tuned systems. Problem with the FZR is it has a common chamber
so can’t really be tuned. So I was thinking about how to have a separate pipe for each cylinder but preserve the Exup.
I found this diagram of the 750 exhaust which has individual Exup valves for each cylinder.

It still has a common chamber after the valves but I think a rear flange could be made up
to lead into separate cans. This then would permit the length of the exhaust to be tuned.
Wondering if anyone has attempted this and if so that results were obtained?

sounds like a lot of hard work to me, buy a non exup set of stainless and get it set up properly i recon you'd get better performance.

Outright performance ... top end would be better with a non exup pipe but it would be at the cost of the bottom end ... which is why Yamaha put the exup in in the first place.

BDK do a full race system with an exup similar to the one shown but with a single valve.

If you want power just put a 600 in there.

if the revs don't drop too low on the circuit, then it negates the need for the exup as it'll be open anyway! you'll lose a little on the start if you get it wrong but you only do one start in a race! :peace:
