well i bought the bike not long back, in november. Since then its been sat in the garage, and iv started it up from time to time, nothing else. It's always worked and fired up fine!

But a few weeks back it wouldnt fire, and eventually the battery died, i just left it and put it down to it being so cold. Well now its a little warmer iv charged the battery to try again, and it just wont have it.

Dont suppose anyone has any ideas what could be up with it? Or what i can try lol.

Start with the basics - is there any fuel left?

Hi Craig. It's basic fault finding mate. Engine needs 2 things to work, fuel/air mixture and a spark to set it off. if its getting fuel chances are its not getting a spark so you'll need to fault find that. Plugs ok? Leads ok? Coils ok? Then work your way through the low tension side of the wiring.
If it has a good spark then chances are its not getting good fuel/air and you need to fault find that. Is there enough fuel? Is it turned on? Is the fuel filter/hose blocked? Is the pump working? If not is it the pump or is it a relay? Are the carbs blocked? etc etc

Do all that and if you find something specific you're not sure of, ask, someone here will know how to fix it or probably have a spare to help you with.

Hope that helps you, oh and a copy of a haynes manual is a very handy tool.

So, back to the basic fault finding then Craig................................

Assuming you have the presence of a fuel/air mixture* (1) and a spark (2) you can go on to check you have compression (3) as Bourney quite rightly pointed out, I stand corrected!

I'm betting you wont get that far however, my money's on something simple.

Agreed.

Personally i think it's stale fuel. It only takes around a month for stale fuel to go off.

He's had the bike for a while now and even though he's being starting it it still won't stop the jets gumming up with old fuel



Ok, simplify it.

Lets say for this purpose your compression is fine (you don't loose compression from it sitting lol).

You will be getting air

So now it's fuel and a spark.

Easiest way to rule it out, drop a little fuel down the plug holes. If it's fires then clean out the cab, if not you have a spark problem.
Check the killswitch (if there is one :S)
