Hi all,

just wondering if any of know how to take the brake pads out of an nc24? dumb question i know but cant get the pins out. . .
any help and advice woiuld be much appreciated

Pretty sure they are identical to the RC24, pivoting on one pin with the other end of the pad held by the mounting plate


Remove the caps over the pins (use a decent screwdriver otherwise they chew), you may need an impact driver.
Remove the pins using a decent hex driver, use plenty of copperslip when rebuilding, both on the end of the pin, the thread and behind the 'cap'.

Well in that case, use plenty of plus-gas (not wd40) and possibly some boiling water[1] to try and free it.

[1] Given the rubber seals best not to use any extreme heat.

i havnt just used nearly a can of wd40 what will this do an was thinkin of just gettin new front callipers hopefully somthin better that the 24 ones

Edit: anyone know what callipers i can change them to for reasonable moneys

Just sort your calipers out, put new brake fluid in and make sure there bled properly and they'll be much better.

Anything else requires major work (not worth it really)

The biggest problem is their sliding calipers.

People dont' grease the sliders with the right grease, this dries out the rubber seals and they seize up.

It'll cost you about £45 from dave silvers for a full set of seals and rubber boots to do all the calipers. Just use the right grease, decent pads and new fluid and there really quite good for sliders.

Braided lines help firm things up if you still have the original rubber hoses.

i could give that a go but the pistons inside come out when u pull the lever but then they wont go back in
are there any options at all for different better callipers?

Buy a big tub of red rubber grease from halfords, use it on pins, seals and everything rubber basically.

The reason btw I said not WD40 is that WD40 while better than nothing is simply a Water Dispersant, plus-gas is actually designed to penetrate and free seized bolts/nuts etc.

ahh yer re-read ur orginal post an i was thinkin the pistons inside for some reason managed to get them undone with buyin some new hex keys an some brute force an ignorance lol but havin probs with the pistons stickin now

The pistons stick because salt and dirt builds up under the seals making them a tighter fit around the pistons. get new seals and clean out the small groves carefully before fitting your new seals and smear some red rubber grease on them and they will be fine.
