reparing panels

tried searching but could,nt find anything.
whats the best way to repair cracked fairings without using a soldering iron, heard of something that you fill the crack with then heat it up with a heat gun and it melts the two bits together could be wrong though , dont know to be honest.
i tried using a soldering iron once with cable ties and it badly marked the out side of fairing, which made me cry

The product you are looking for is called 'Plastex'. Not sure where you will get it, some bike shops stock it here in Oz.

I've no experience using it myself but have seen it covered in one of the local mags, and read good things about it on other forums.

Yep, Plastex is the dogs bollox. Buy it on ebay, get the standard size as its worth having. Two ways to use it, one pick up a small blob on the end of the needle and drop in place or fill the v'd out repair with the powder and drop the liquid on to this, my prefered method.

Plastex is amazing, used it for the first time about a week ago..

Very easy to work with and can be sanded easily.

Best place to get it is probably ebay..

I used Plastech and it works really well.

I had all my fairings resprayed and the bottom belly ones were all cracked. The body shop guy uses superglue, he asked what I have used as he couldn't believe the strength of the join. He had to sand it down a bit as I went over the top and he had to fill a bit were I had left impressions but was all part of the deal, I fixed it he prepped and sprayed it.

Its really good stuff but you need to put some work into it to make sure its a good bond. Use a dremel type drill with a V type sander bit. You can really attack the back of the fairing but go easy on the front as you are really making work for yourself.

Make sure you test the bond, I left mine an hour and it split when I flexed the panel, left it over night and it was unbreakable. Did about 5 cracks - 2 very long.

I used solvent adhresive (from b and q , you have to ask for it as they keep it locked up ) and plastic welding rods .
Put some solvent adhesive in a pot and disolve the some welding rod in it til it makes a paste, then use it like filler .
Dont hang about as it sets pretty quick. You can sand it or use a soldering iron to further shape/finish it !
Cheap as chips Oh dont breath the fumes from the adhesive or you'll wake up on the garage floor with banging headache !
