Hi guys!

Just signed up here, but been browsing for a few weeks now. Picked myself up a GK76A a few weeks back that wont run. Had the carbs off, cleaned them out, set them back to factory settings (i think!), and checked all the 'o' rings (which were replaced recently anyway!).

Put it all back together today, and it dosnt want to start. I had to replace a few bits on the carbs (the covers for the blaencing nippled were missing!).

Ive checked the plugs and they look very dry indeed, so no idea why fuel isnt getting to the cylinder? Any idea ?

Ok, well i got it running now. It idles nicely, however it pretty much started without the choke, so i think that means its running too rich? If so how do i make it a bit leaner ?

And also it barely revs at the moment, like 200RPM or something silly and then boggs out. Any ideas what is causing this ?

well i cant tell u what the problem is with ur bike. But iv also got a gsxr400 gk76.
And heres the thing... Iv got the same problem on my bike and iv been buzy on it trying to sort the bike 4 the past 3 mounths now... also did the carbs and shimms and it just wount rev up... hope u get to sort ur bike very soon...they very nice bikes and fun to ride.

fev ppl told me to get the pickup checked...but here in south africa thereisnt alot of them bikes

Well from my recently rechearch and reading it up can be a few things...

1) carbs not balenced, well it wont help anyway if they are not, so im off to buy some balencers tomorrow.
2) Idle screw too far in, in which case it just needs backing off as far as possible so the bike ticks over nicely. Aparently if it is too far wound it it can uncover some jets which is bad (the butterfly valves that is).
3) The 'o' rings have gone, although im pretty sure mine isnt this as they were replaced recently!!!

You sound like your suffering from bad o'rings, especially if the bike will start from cold without choke and you will probably find that the temp gauge stays low. If the pilot screws are set at say 2 turns out the bike should run and pick up ok when the carbs are good but when the o'rings are off fuel flows past the jets and the bottom end is way rich.

Chris varcons carbs have had new rings in the though. Have the valve clearances been checked varcon?

Hi Mike, hope things good your end! I rebuilt some carbs for a guy recently and after it would only run on one cylinder with the other 3 running very dry, after recleaning and fitting the pilot screws,springs ,washers and o'ring the bike ran spoton so this could be worth a look.

Yeah, i know how hard it is to get these carbs clean. I love having the large ultrasonic cleaner now.

my gk76a splutters a little when i rip the throttle all the way when riding,aparently its dirty jets,or carb balence i think.

Not luck yet but not spent too much time working on the bike recently - christmas and all that and its too bloody cold atm!

However, i aquired another set of carbs, which i have stripped down, and i have new seals arrriving soon. So i think i am going to rebuilt an almost perfect set of carbs out of the two, and then probably sell on all the parts. Not sure what the interest would be in individual parts though!
