My NC30 is an '89, so oldschool damping rods with preload adjustment only. I have some dreams of fitting an NC35 front end... but I think it's time to be realistic and see what I can do with the current forks.

The suspension is completely shagged. The previous owner had rebuilt them (using new oil, but old springs), and fully preloaded, they still dive and pogo like they're filled with nothing but air.

I'd like to know whether cartridge internals can be sourced and dropped in easily . As well as being my country runner bike (when accompanied - Australian licence restrictions), I'm getting started on the track, and this'll be my weapon. I'd really like something that offers a good level of performance (obviously) and adjustability, so that I can experiment/adjust and learn. So ideally something with preload/compression/rebound adjustment.

Will the current forks take a cartridge kit? If it's not plug and play... do suspension specialists do this sort of conversion?

What you want is a Rick Oliver fork kit.. New springs, spacers, oil and gubbins = sorted forks.

Or, plenty of places do a cartridge emulator kit which will be so pricy that you might as well buy some cartridge forks...

I'd get some stiffer springs for starters and go from there.. At the end of the day spring rate is key and no amount of fancy pants damping adjustment will amke a difference if you have the wrong springs

D'oh. Not really what I was hoping to hear . Oh well; them's the breaks.

I'm in Australia, so mailing things like oil probably doesn't make sense. I might contact Rick and see what I can work out.

Get hold of Rick's springs for early model forks, his service and gear is top shelf.
