Hi, i've just fitted new chain and sprockets to me luvverly '24.
Problem is chain is far too slack. Propped the back end up and tried to adjust it via the slot in the swingarm, hefty screwdriver in to indents in hub and very little movement, i'm guessing the hub has succumbed to the 20-odd years worth of crap thats in there and has seized
could anyone give me a quick rundown on how to get the hub out please?

You have undone the 2 x 12mm bolts before you tried to adjust it right?

You chain has the correct number of links too? (106)

Remove 2 x 12mm retaining bolts.
Undo 36mm socket on cushdrive side
Remove Wheel
Remove cushdrive unit and remove spacer and circlip from shaft
Remove brake caliper
Withdraw axle from hub
Tap out hub with mallet

Ok, well when removing the hub you have to take the pinch bolts out, dont just slacken them off, unscrew them all the way as they go into recesses on the hub so it'll never come out...

I think it's a 36mm hub nut, I can picture the socket I use but can't recall the size i'll go with 36mm.

Once you have the cushdrive off you'll see the shaft, it has a spacer on it and under that (and probably covered in grease and hard to see is the small circlip) i've labelled them so you know what your looking for. Once you pry the circlip off the shaft you should be able to withdraw the axle from the hub (presuming you've move the brake caliper out of the way

PS: You don't need to go as far as taking the bearings out but it'd be worth while checking them... The double Koyo is around £60 :/ DSS do have regular deals on though so if its in stock it'ls about £30 :D

Right, got the hub out and cleaned it and the swingarm, smeared some copper lube on,refitted it, moved fine, chain adjusted ok. All good so far?
Refitted the wheel, Cush drive and big nut (no circlip?!)
bolted the brake caliper back up and no movement possible fromthe hub!
The plate the brake bolt to seems to be 'stuck' to the hub, stopping it moving independently?!

Stuck? the plates held on by a circlip, it moves around as you adjust the chain so the brake caliper is always in the right position.

Do you have the parts manual? if not i can take a picture of the hub for you so you can see how it goes together.

i checked out the brake assy diagram off cmsnl.com and can see its reatined by a circlip into the hub but nowt else that should be stopping it?!
like you say, it should move so you can adjust the chain but it seems seized, even gave it a *little* tap, still stuck.
i'll take the hub out again tonight and see if i can get it off....

yay! success! after much swearing, wd40 and screwdrivers impaled into hands the brake carrier plate is off!
proper seized on it were

liberal coating of copaslip and its good to go!
now just
the front brakes to service
mph clocks to source
brake lights in seat cowl to replace
mirrors to fit
fairings to paint
fuel filter to fit
rear hugger to source
pushbike speedo to fit
illum. for bike speedo to sort
14ah battery to shoehorn in
fairing infill panels to source

and its on the road!! ever the optimist!! :)

Why 14ah battery?

the 8ah doesnt seem to have enough oomph? and runs flat in a couple of days, brand new as well
