Does anyone how much it would cost at a garage to get the valve clearances checked and adjusted if needed. Thought i might aswell do them in the winter months. i have owned the bike 3months and not had them checked yet!!

I think it is a 6hr job in the book - so if you local shop is charging £40 an hour..you are looking at £240 at least..plus a fiver a shim.... sod that

ive got some shims left from when i did mine and could give you a hand if you want

All part of the joy of owning an older bike.

To keep one relativly mint can easily turn into a bottemless pit of neverending spending. Especially when things build up (tyres / chain / sprockets / engine service etc etc)

Why do you think there are so many neglected ones on ebay?

I often have fellow bikers jesting that many of my bikes spend more time in bits than on the road. But thats part of the joy / nightmare (delete as approriate) of owning an older bike, the hands on do it yourself approach that is lost on many newer machines packed with electronic trickery and special tools.

And since there all gettin on a bit they inevitibly do need more maintance / money spending on them than a newer machine. Unfortuantly many people let things build up until so much needs doing it ends up on ebay.

Learning some basic maintainance skills will save you a fortune in the long run. The valve clearances are not hard at all, just follow vipers guide.

If I wanted hassle free easy biking i'd buy the 2009 CB1300 in RWB of course then sell it after a couple of years and let someone else deal with the hassle of keeping it running (a practice my neighbour is quite keen on)

Come to think of it i'm tempted to buy one anyway

the guide is on here and with the amount of good helpful folk on this site you would have no problem doing it.
it was one of the first major jobs i did on my NC30 and it only served to bring me closer to the old girl!!
