On my NC30 i have a new front tyre but the rear has an old BTO90 tyre with lots of thread buts it is very hard like a bullet. It was on the bike when i brought it so it is years old. I am going to replace it for the winter.

But i have found some tyre softner in my garage, i use to use it on slick tyres that we used for hot rod racing.

Basically you paint it on to the old tyres a couple of coats then wrap the tyre in cling film. Leave for a week and it softens the rubber like new. You can get the tyre softner from demon tweeks.

I have never tried it on motorcycle road tyre, so i will let you know the results next week!

never heard of it mate. Wouldn't it be safer for you to bin that one and fork out for a new one, no point risking it is there?

How old is the tyre? If you look on the sidewall, on one of the sides you'll have the DOT code, this will be 3 or 4 numbers.

IE 1604 which would mean the tyre was made in the 16th week of 2004.

3 digits would mean the tyre was made in the 1990's.

If the tyres old enough to have gone hard though I wouldn't trust it on the street, even after tyre softner. Theres a lot more things to hit than on a racetrack :/

Your choice tho, it could be fine. I'm just a tad cautios with brakes and tyres.

honestly I wouldnt risk it, for the price of a new tyre you could save yourself the cost of a new bike!
