Hi Lads, only did one race this year and a few track days but hopefully a full season next year. Whats the best tires for the job? Using BT090's at the moment and have been told I'm mad trying to run race pace with these. We're restricted to using road legal rubber in the Irish SS400 class. So what would you recommend? Cheers

Yup, agree, I raced at 3 sisters the other week with a BT090 and it was shite. If your stuck with the 18 inch rear go for dunlop alpha10's.

Running with the standard NC35 17inch rear wheel. Will a 160 rear not rub against the chain? I'm on a 525 chain at the moment will I have to swap it for a 520 to allow for a wider tire? Cheers for the help.

BT090 are good IMO. I have raced on supercorsa diablo, dragon and BT090 - liked them all.

YOu can get cheap scrubs for the Pirellis though!

Never used the BT090 on track, but coming to the end now (2 rounds to go) of my first racing season using Dunlop Alpha 10's.

For my limited skill (read slow), they grip perfectly, and wear seems to be good I managed 2x Brands Indy weekends, Snetterton and Oulton on the first set, then felt the rear slip a couple of times at Oulton so fitted a new rear for the next round. Still on that original front and second rear now, and plan to stay that way till the end of the season.

Most people do use the pirelli's though, and as mentioned you can get scrubs very very easily/cheaply (more than a few times I've heard of getting them free, from those that use a new rear tyre each day and new front every round ¬_¬)

Cheers for that. Looks like its between the alpha's and super corsa's so. Have at least one more track day left in the 090's then I'll try one of these.

Super Corsa's are amazing but they wear out very quick.. but hey there worth it :D

on the topic of running a 17" rear on a NC30

i know this would put the speedo out, is there any way to re calibrate the speedo? apart from using a GPS and marking on the speedo glass

finding a NC30 wheel is the next hard part, they are as rare as rocking horse shit over here in NZ

The most convenient way to get around speedo errors is to put a speedo on with a magnetic pick up (pushbike speedo, aftermarket dash etc). That way it wont ever be out when you change fm 18" to 17", or change the gearing around.

There are plenty of 17" and 18" rear wheels in Oz, postage is pretty cheap to NZ.
