hey, i'm a bit concerned over my nc29 as its seems to get hot very quickly.

After a 10min ride the temp gauge will be halfway and after my journey to work 13miles its more than 3/4. I can also feel the heat comming from the engine and the frame becomes way to hot to touch!

Just thinking is this something i have to worry about???

Should i replace fluids (coolant, oil) as i dont know when this was done last??

Obviously ambient temp will have an effect on how quickly the bike warms up, if the cooling fan's coming in ok I'd be looking at thermostat first, if the coolant level's ok.

Have same problem when I had "air-bubble voids" in cooling system.

cheers, checked it over today and seems ok, coolant is topped up and free from air. Maybe a bit old but is the right colour.

Went on a 40mile trip and ended up at the tesco temp was at 3/4 and very hot!!

decide to do some shopping and leave it to cool down - when i came back about 20 mins later the temp was down but the battery was extremely week.

It wouldnt start brought the battery back home for a quick charge and went back to the bike. It started fine and drove back to the garage!!!

Now seems like the battery is being effected, the temp is probally messing with the regulator??

i'm stumped??? any ideas??

at 3/4 temp gauge indicator, did the fan working ? usually, it will work to lower down the temp.

Ok, causes of overheating
low coolant level/leaks etc
thermostat partially/fully stuck shut
fan not working (to test, remove wires from switch located in rad at nearside and join together, fan should come in.)
water pump failure (rare)
head gasket failure (rare)
blockage in system or cooling fins on rad
electrical/signal fault (ie not actually overheating but appears to be, normally temp sender)

Battery problem- I'd get a meter across the battery first and see if it's showing about 13-14 volts when running.

Also - rad cap not sealing

The fan only really comes into play in heavy traffic.

If its getting that hot in 10 miles or so of moving above 20mph its you've got to look at the stat.
Head gaskets tend to go when you ride with other problems,like the stat stuck closed.

or, you can remove the rad fan, and do a direct connection with the battery to check whether the fan and thermo switch is faulty or not.
