gloves for working on mechanical things

I know a lot of mechanics use disposable latex gloves. And a lot of mechanics use nothing.
I tried rubber gloves recently (like for washing dishes) and they got a hole in one of the fingers quite quickly. (I'm not sure if the petrol ate them or if it was physical damage)
You can also get thicker (non disposable) latex gloves...
Its pretty difficult getting the petrol smell and grease off your hands afterwards.

I use the disposable latex ones. Petrol and thinners do eat holes in them, but when that happens just replace it, or leave it, and then you only have one dirty finger to wash rather than a couple of filthy hands, then instead of spending 10 minutes washing your hands, you can have an extra beer

usually don't wear anything, but have a pack of latex gloves, they're $7 for 100 so not an arm and a leg,
if you're going to work on a relatively clean area you'll be fine, if it's gonna get down and dirty,
wear the gloves.
And buy some solvol, with enough scrubbing it'll get most of the sh!t off.

Not sure about mechanics gloves, everything gets dirty in the end and hands are easier to wash than gloves! There are some useful looking gloves out there though.
A good citrus abrasive type industrial grease removing hand cleaner will sort out even the toughest hand stains after a couple of goes!!

One thing i have learnt over the years is to use hand cream daily like atrixo, especialy if your mits are constantly getting covered in oil etc.

Latex gloves for quick jobs, otherwise they just end in holes, your hands will still stink awful though from the sweat/talc/rubber combination !
I also use a set of mechanix gloves for more heavy duty work which are machine washable and stop all the pain of bashing and scraping the backs of your hands !
If its a heavy duty oily dirty job I wear the latex inside the mechanix gloves for best of both - the major drawback is supersonically hot hands !

Man, put them in with the greasy clothes you wear in the garage and rags you use in there not your dinner suit !
If there that bad run the machine empty afterwards but its usually fine
