Oh dear.

Could be many problems.

Electrical system:

The NC24 has poor electrics, did you test out the whole system or just replace the reg/rec? Your battery / altenator could well be dead too.

Other electrical problems could be coil(s) / plug(s) / Ignition box.

Fuel problem:

Starvation of fuel? Dirty / blocked carb(s) / petrol tank.

Broken vaccumn pipe for fuel tap is common especially at higher revs/speed.

Theres lots of possible problems.

How does it idle? Did you charge the battery fully.

Make sure it's somebody you trust and if possible have experience with working on a 400 as there quite a compact motor and theres been several tales of hamfisted backstreet mechanics breaking things, people not being able to fix a quite well known 'common' problem etc etc.

Yes it could be many many things, without seeing it it's very difficult to say exactly what it could be im afraid.

thanks for bieng honest trouble is ive not been back on the bike scene long and dont know many bike repairs + im in cornwall not got many. last bike i had was a gsxr 750 17 yrs ago and never had any probs so didnt learn much about repairs now the wifes :blah: in my ear about the money ive spent on it already so have you any idea where to start ie should i change the battery (forgot to say my boy said that he was doing some bits on his and noticed my lights on tryed to start but was dead so he charged it with normal car charger does that matter as its a different voltage ) only told me last nite

it wont be a different voltage but it will be a very different current, nc30 battery only wants 500mah - 1ah charge rate ideally and a car charger will be putting out at least 6ah i most cases up to about 8ah so your talking 5 times the charge rate at least!, this can very easily damage the battery, evaporate the electrolyte or even buckle the plates, get yourself a bike charger to be honest!

sounds to me that it might not be running on all 4 cylinders,
check if all 4 exhaust pipes are getting hot.
as for charging the battery with a car charger,no problem there, your battery is 12 volt.
the same as your car.

using a car charger isnt ok as said the voltages will be the same but the current will be very different :P the very maximum charge rate you can use on these bike batterys is 3ah charge for 1 hour, hardly any car chargers will be anywhere near that low so you will just fry the battery! it may seem to charge it ok but your really damaging the battery

do you think that it could be the cause of my problem or not and should i get a new battery in case anyway {by the way thanks for all the info so far} :worthy: oh it allmost seems like the choke dont work it tryes to cut the bike out even when cold and the only way i can keep it running now is to keep playing with idle screw {down left side of bike black plastic top}

Well i can only speak of my experience with car chargers,
I have used them for many years never killed a battery,
But i have never let them charge for long periods.
just a couple of hours max.
