Hi all

I just recently bought a Gk76 track bike, I think from somebody on this site. A chap called Tom from RAF Wittering.

I have a small problem with the Temp gauge as it is not reading correctly. I have tested the dial as I had a spare and it seems ok. There is a very slight movement when the ignition is turned on, however it does not move after that.

The wiring is a little confusing and not had a chance to explore it all but I managed to follow most of it and seems ok.

Has anyone else had a problem like this before? I have done some research and it may be the sender, however I have no idea what it looks like or where it may be based. Could it be the unit with the small single wire going to the thermostat?

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement Sender or does other bikes/models use the same?

yes that will be the temp sender by the sounds of it. It might actually be working though, are you positive that the engine has been allowed to get hot enough as I did wonder if mine was working as it can stay pretty damn low in the cold if you're not thrashing it about.

From what I've discovered on here, it appears the carbs on these bikes are prone to going which causes the bike to run rich and therefore the addtional fuel keeps the engine cooler at the same time as washing the oil from the bores.
My temp gauge hardly moved at all until I rebuilt the carbs.

Good on Gixxer4000, tis true. If the bike seems very cool and especialy if it is a bit of a dog to start then you probs got rich running due to the carbs needing a rebuild.

I have spent some time stripping the Thermostat and testing the Sender.

The bike runs fine with no rough starts.

I took out the sender and tested it in boiling water and not a movement. I tested the dial and wiring and all seems ok.

Seems like a duff unit. I looked up the price and they are £36 new!!
